Being Proactive Instead Of Reactive

Proactive, The ONLY Way!
I have been a reactive guy for the better part of my life. The Lord speaks about it when he talks about a ship without a rudder in the book of James. As a young man instinctively through persistence and desire success came to me and even before I believed in the Lord I was introduced to the scripture Mathew 7:7 "Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be opened to you". This scripture spoke to be then about persistence and going after dreams and aspirations. Granted instead of nobility and going after it with integrity i made exceptions to the rule and did things in a very gray area, I drove a BMW and lived at the beach and traveled and enjoyed a fun lifestyle but it was not the right way to get there and I was not a believer nor a worshiper of the Living God. If something bad came along I would react to it by freaking out or drinking or some other wrong way methods.
I was married and the marriage was difficult, which one isn't right? My ex wife would go out to bars and drink and party and I was not into that. I suspected she was cheating on me because she would stay at other guys houses instead of come home after going out some nights. My mind got the best of me so a hot secretary at work became my out and sexual relationship ensued, it was the beginning of the end of that relationship with the mother of my child. Things were off from the gate but instead of being proactive and doing something positive earlier on I reacted and did what was wrong. It was terrible. They say that 70% of the populous is reactive and around 30% are proactive. I am finding through being proactive my life is changing, slowly buts it's positive changes. I am a business developer and many times In my business I would be reactive and approach prospects with my pitch and then react based on what was being said to me instead of being proactive and taking control. Not everyone is going to business with but I can say since being proactive instead of reactive sales have gone up and life has begun to be more satisfying. I still struggle with a spiritual battle that is beating me up and kicking my teeth in spiritually but I sense victory closer to me than it ever has been during this trial.
I was reactive for the better part of it, I would drink beer and use that as a crutch in dulling the pain and burying the real issues at hand, a total waste of time and destructive. I would smoke as well, this does nothing but deteriorate my health and annoy those around me. I have proactively taken steps to stop smoking by using the patch, it's working. Additionally I have stopped drinking, it was so hard but I feel so much better. I am naturally pretty funny or so people have said. Drinking only makes me obnoxious and want to get in fights, either verbal or otherwise. That's really attractive right? NOT! I am reading the bible now more than ever before and praying out of my shoes. The demonic attacks I have been experiencing have gotten so bad I can hardly stand it, they are feeling the pressure of my changes and they know how God is and that He is going to rescue me from there grasp and deliver me as He always has from all troubles. I have experienced many many troubles in my life and have enough baggage to fill a carousel at any major airport.
I am seeing real change by changing 1% a day, I am also replacing the bad habits with good one like prayer and reading of the word. This is really helping. I have the road map, God gave me in His word to help me in every situation. It was at my finger tips for several years now and a force, my flesh has kept me from putting it in play. It's the best plan anyone could have because God wrote it and proved it many times over and even a non believer can put it to the test and see it actually works. Imagine if God was reactive instead of proactive? Would there be anyone left alive on earth? Lighting, fire and brim stone would have rained on the heads of evry living thing on the planet. He is the best proactive example we have to look at, He sent prophets to us before he sent Christ to try and steer us straight but we killed them, denied them so he sent His son to give us an eternal solution, plus He gave us His word which again is proactive, it gives us all the answers to any question one could have and the solutions to the most complex problems. If we put them into action and use our faith it opens the flood gates of the power of Gos to work in our lives and it took me forever to come into agreement with that and actually try it out. It's working wonders in business and my personal relationships, the next to come is the battle that has been raging spiritually, I will will keep you posted.

This is a great story and a phenomenal example of the struggle one encounters when moving from reactivity to proactivity! I never thought about God's perspective of proactivity by sending prophets, Christ and The Word.. Not to mention people like us (sharing our personal experiences)and the Holy Spirit reconfirming what has been said for generations! Nice!
Tim, you just don't hold anything back, and the courage to do that impresses me!
This hub gave me a great deal to think about because I identified with it in regards to being 'reactive', lol. Being proactive is still a work in progress, but I'm determined to continue improving!
I love the way you peel all of the layers away, and ultimately present just yourself, where you've been and where you are now. You've acknowledged God's hand in leading you along, when you were willing to grasp it, and follow Him.
It's such a wonderful thing that He doesn't give up on us. It's also a wonderful thing that you share in your writings, showing us what marvelous things He can do with a willing heart.

Good hub, Like I always say it is not WHAT happens to you but how you REACT to what happens.
